The First Focus Group Meeting Of Best For Energy Project Was Held With The Theme Of 'Izmir's Clean Energy Potential And Future Trends'

The first focus group meeting of the "BEST For Energy" Project was held with the theme of "Izmir's Clean Energy Potential and Future Trends" between 14:00 - 17:00 on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

A total of 26 people, including companies producing equipment and services in the wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and hydrogen energy, investors, non-governmental organizations, academics, and industry experts, attended the meeting.

The general session of the meeting started with the opening speech of Murat Çelik, Coordinator of İzmir Development Agency Investment Support Office. In his remarks, Mr. Çelik stated that as a result of the project carried out with clustering and innovative specialization perspectives, it is aimed to transform İzmir and its surroundings into a region specialized in clean energy and clean technologies. BEST For Energy Project; He said it is an essential project for the Izmir Development Agency, which operates to develop pioneering, original, and exemplary projects based on green and blue growth approaches.

At the meeting, Ekin Taşkın, BEST For Energy Project Team Leader; A presentation was made summarizing the project's aims, objectives, and activities.

Afterward, the participants were divided into four groups, wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal, according to their expertise and interests. Future trends that will affect the industry, competitor regions, countries, strengths, and weaknesses compared to competitors, opportunities, and threats to the industry were evaluated.

İzmir is a prominent city in the clean energy sector with its geographical location, ecological structure, human capital, and development. İzmir has significant geothermal resources, agricultural and animal outputs that will provide the raw material needs of the biomass sector sustainably, and a high solar and wind energy potential. However, when these sectors are discussed separately, it is seen that the wind energy sector becomes prominent in İzmir. All the Focus Group Meeting participants agreed that the success in the wind field should be increased by influencing other sub-sectors.

12 Thematic Focus Group Meetings will be held

Focus Group Meetings, where detailed qualitative information about the participants' perspectives, experiences, thoughts, perceptions, and attitudes on a determined subject is obtained, is aimed to be held 12 times within BEST For Energy Project.

Focus Group Meetings, which will be attended by sector representatives and experts determined according to thematic topics, will provide essential input to the current situation analysis of the clean energy and clean technology sector and prepare the sector strategy.

The first 6 of these will be carried out within the scope of the current situation analysis of the clean energy sector. After this meeting, which was held with the theme of "İzmir's Clean Energy Potential and Future Trends," five more sessions will be held. The articles of these meetings will be İzmir's clean energy ecosystem, the human resource needs of the sector, potential projects for the sector's development, the services needed by the sector, and sectoral transformation.
