Türkiye's First Wind Energy Ideathon was held in İzmir!

Türkiye's first Wind Energy Ideathon, organized to increase R&D, innovation, and university-industry cooperation opportunities in the Wind Energy Sector, was held in Teknopark İzmir, between 20-21 November. The Wind Ki team won the BEST For Wind open innovation competition organized within BEST For Energy Project, which aims the smart specialization of İzmir in the clean energy and clean technology sector, with the "Small Scale Wind Turbine Applications" Project.

 

On the first day of the event, the developments and future trends in the wind energy sector were conveyed to the students by the managers of the leading companies in the sector. As speakers at the event, Mahmut GÜLDOĞAN, Vice Chairman of Ateş Wind Power, Özgür SOYSAL, Finance Director of TPI Composites, Cem BALKAN, Senior Business Development Manager of ASELSAN, Board Chairman of the Offshore Wind Energy Association (DURED) Dr. Murat DURAK and XGEN Energy Co-founder İskender KÖKEY attended. All speakers underlined the growth potential of the sector and informed the participants about qualified employment opportunities in the sector.

 

After the sectoral informative presentations, the participants worked in teams to produce innovative ideas and applicable solutions for 24 hours and industry companies and academics contributed to the teams with mentorship support.

 

16 teams' projects were evaluated by Alper KALAYCI, Board Chairman of ENSİA, Ekin TAŞKIN, BEST For Energy Project Team Leader, Dr. Ferhat BİNGÖL, İzmir Institute of Technology academician, İzmir Development Agency ISO Coordinator H.İ.Murat ÇELİK and KOSGEB İzmir Provincial Directorate Director Dr.Levent ARSLAN.

 

Wind Ki team won the first prize with their "Small Scale Wind Turbine Applications" project, Hemp X team won the second prize with their "Sustainable Wind Turbine Materials" project and GulfSPY team won the third prize with their "Determination of Dres Application Points" project.

 

The Clean Energy Ideathon series, organized within the BEST For Energy Project implemented by İzmir Development Agency in partnership with the Energy Industrialists and Businessmen Association, will continue with the Urban Clean Energy Applications on December 4-5, 2021.
